
For a successful flower farm in Romania we are looking for an entrepreneurial flower farm manager. The company, in the east part of Romania is at the moment specialized in tulips and peonies and is one of the leading companies in this field. It has beside a greenhouse of one ha, also cold storages and openfield crops.
The new investor, who is already successful in flower horticulture in the West of Europa is looking for an entrepreneurial farm manager, who develops in close cooperation with the investor the flower company in Romania to a great success.
Flower farm manager (entrepreneur)
The Flower Farm Manager oversees and manages the daily operations of a flower farm, ensuring efficient planting, cultivation, and harvesting of flowers. He/she is responsible for crop planning, soil management, labor management, and post-harvest handling (including marketing and sales). The farm manager will work in close cooperation with the investor from Western Europe.
Tasks
1. Crop Planning and Management:
- Variety Selection: choosing the right flower varieties to grow based on market demand, growing conditions, and profitability.
- Planting Schedules: developing and implementing planting schedules to ensure a continuous supply of flowers throughout the growing season.
- Succession Planting: utilizing succession planting techniques to extend the harvest season and maximize yield.
- Inventory Management: tracking inventory of plants and supplies to ensure optimal production and prevent shortages.
2. Cultivation and Maintenance:
- Soil Health: maintaining healthy soil through practices like composting, cover cropping, and appropriate fertilization.
- Pest and Disease Management: implementing strategies to control pests and diseases and protect the crops.
- Watering and Irrigation: ensuring adequate watering of plants through irrigation systems.
- Weeding and Thinning: performing essential maintenance tasks like weeding, thinning, and pinching to promote plant health and growth.
3. Harvesting and Post-Harvest Handling:
- Harvesting Techniques: utilizing proper harvesting techniques to ensure the quality and longevity of flowers.
- Post-Harvest Handling: implementing post-harvest handling procedures, such as cooling and conditioning, to maintain flower quality.
- Packaging and Transport: preparing flowers for sale or transport, whether directly to consumers or through wholesale channels.
4. Business and financial Management:
- Strategy: develops in close cooperation with the investor a strategic business plan and realizes the goals
- Sales and Marketing: developing strategies to market and sell flowers, whether directly to consumers or through wholesale channels.
- Cost Management: managing labour and production costs, and other expenses to ensure profitability.
- Financial Planning: developing and managing the farm’s budget and financial records.
5. Labour Management:
- Hiring and Training: hiring and training staff to assist with farm operations.
- Scheduling and Supervision: scheduling staff and supervising their work to ensure efficient operations.
- Team Cohesion: fostering a positive and productive work environment for staff.
Key qualifications
- Speaks English and preferably also Romanian (or is willing to learn this on the short term)
- Lives or is willing to live in the East of Romania/Bucharest
- Minimum 5 years experience in arable or horticulture
- Entrepreneurial skills
- Pro active
- Perseverance and learning attitude
- Hands-on mentality preferably with technical skills (two right hands)
